Hire Agency Service

Want to earn money from your motorhome? Just read on...

Main Menu

A motorhome is a huge investment that can often spend a large part of the year sat idle. There is a large demand for motorhomes to rent, especially during the summer. Your motorhome could help earn its keep by attracting a rental income when you are not using it. There is great demand for smaller vehicles, especially for visitors from Australia and New Zealand.

A 2 berth motorhome will retail for £590 (+ VAT) per week during the peak season. You could receive up to 85% of rental income, depending on which option (shown below) that you choose.

There is a downside to renting out your motorhome. In addition to preparing it for hire and cleaning it on its return, you must be prepared for the fact that not all hirers will treat your pride and joy with the respect that you would treat another’s property. Damage to your motorhome is likely and, while you will not suffer financially from this, it can come as a shock when it happens.

There is a number of hire agencies operating on a national basis. These usually have high overheads meaning that the proportion of rental income returned to the owner is lower than is possible with a smaller company such as Scarper.

There are three levels to our hire agency service. These are:

Option 1

This level of service generates the most income for the owner. You will be responsible for providing insurance and breakdown cover for your vehicle (we can advise you on this) as well as preparing the motorhome for hire, conducting a handover to the hirer and cleaning the motorhome on its return. You will be expected to ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy and in a suitable state for hire.

You will receive 85% of the hire fee, plus the cost in full of any extras that you provide such as delivery and collection or additional insurance. There is no minimum number of weeks that you must make your vehicle available for hire. All we ask is that you inform us in plenty of time when your motorhome will not be available for hire, and that you honour all hire bookings taken.

As with all our options, there are no up-front fees. We take our fee from the booking deposit and forward the rest to you as soon as we receive it.

Option 2

This option is for the owner who is looking to reduce their running costs to as low as possible but still get a return on their investment. With this option, Scarper will provide the insurance and breakdown cover (including that for your own use) and pay for the mechanical servicing of the vehicle (i.e. not the living area). You will still be responsible for preparing the motorhome for hire, handing it over and cleaning it on return.

You will receive 60% of the hire fee, plus the cost in full of any extras as above. You must commit to making your motorhome available for at least twenty weeks during each calendar year and undertake to limit your use during the peak period.

Option 3

This option is an alternative to selling your motorhome, or for an investor who wants a better return on their capital. In this case, you simply hand your motorhome over to the care of Scarper, and we do the rest. You will have no ongoing running costs; we will even store the vehicle when not in use.

You will receive 50% of the hire fee. If you wish to use the motorhome yourself, you will be required to pay 50% of the advertised rate for your own use.
